The Tim Kowalski Second Chance Scholarship is available for USD 274 – Oakley High School graduating seniors (some consideration may be given to former Oakley School students who obtained a GED.) Students must be planning to attend a two-year vocational, technical, or junior college which issues a certificate of completion within 2 years or less. Students must demonstrate a financial need and a desire to obtain a certificate to prepare them for the workforce. This scholarship is paid as one $500 payment directly to the educational institution in which the student is enrolled. Awards will be announced at Recognition Night prior to graduation. Applications are accepted until April 1 (end of day) annually. Mr. Tim Kowalski grew up on a farm south of Oakley, and learned by doing, the basics of welding, electricity, plumbing, and working with his hands and wits. Unfortunately, not many kids today have that kind of background. It has served him well and he has been blessed beyond measure. His goal is to make this scholarship as simple as possible, with the only real criteria being a desire to improve themselves and provide a service to the public. Mr. Kowalski has a belief that too many kids go to college because they have no idea what they want to do. This will provide them an opportunity to seek education with the skills of joining the workforce.

FAQs

Your questions answered

Community foundations have a simple mission with many moving parts. We aim to answer the most common questions people have here.

Can I send a physical application as opposed to an online one?

All applications must be completed online. Paper copies are not accepted.

Applicants will be required to complete an eligibility quiz at first logon to determine which scholarships they are eligible to apply.

Do NOT use your high school email address.  The email address used in the application will be the primary contact method throughout college if you receive a scholarship award.  If needed, create a personal email account in gmail, yahoo, etc. for permanent personal use.

Verify that your references are willing to provide a POSITIVE reference for you prior to listing them as a reference.  You will need their email address to enter into the application.

Let your personality shine and be thorough in your answers.  Your responses are key to the award selection process.

Once you are awarded a scholarship, you must login to the scholarship portal to complete the required follow up steps. Before the first scholarship payment can be released, you must:

  1. Accept the scholarship agreement.
  2. Provide a copy of your upcoming course schedule.

If your scholarship is for multiple semesters, at the end of each semester you will need to login to the scholarship portal to provide  your current cumulative GPA and upcoming course schedule before the next scholarship payment can be released.

GNWKCF ensures each scholarship fund establishing documents are carefully followed. Students must meet the minimum scholarship criteria at the time of enrollment or the awarded scholarship will be forfeited.

Failure to complete the follow up steps may result in forfeit of your scholarship.
