Elma Lee Bearley Erickson taught many years in Oberlin (USD 294) and Rawlins County (USD 105) schools and is remembered as a first grade teacher at Atwood Grade School with a passion for the young reader. She was a graduate of Atwood Community High School and received her bachelor and masters degrees from Fort Hays State University. Algorth (Al) graduated from Decatur Community High School and farmed south of Herndon. Both Elma and Al enjoyed being spectators at various events and traveling. Two of the highlights of their travels were attending President Dwight Eisenhower's inauguration and visiting the Holy Land. Elma and Al established this scholarship as an appreciation of each of their own educations.

Students graduating from USD 105 - Rawlins County High School

Students graduating from USD 294 – Decatur County High School

Criteria:
Selection is based on:

  • Character, 
  • Initiative, and 
  • Scholastic POTENTIAL. 

Strong consideration will begiven to students interested in careers involving:

  • Education,
  • Working with children, or
  • Agriculture.

Renewals: This award is not renewable.

Can I send a physical application as opposed to an online one?

All applications must be completed online. Paper copies are not accepted.

How will I know if I'm eligable?

Applicants will be required to complete an eligibility quiz at first logon to determine which scholarships they are eligible to apply.

Can I use my high school email address?

Do NOT use your high school email address.  The email address used in the application will be the primary contact method throughout college if you receive a scholarship award.  If needed, create a personal email account in gmail, yahoo, etc. for permanent personal use.

What are the requirements for references?

Verify that your references are willing to provide a POSITIVE reference for you prior to listing them as a reference.  You will need their email address to enter into the application.

How should I approach my answers?

Let your personality shine and be thorough in your answers.  Your responses are key to the award selection process.

What happens if my application is accepted?

Once you are awarded a scholarship, you must login to the scholarship portal to complete the required follow up steps. Before the first scholarship payment can be released, you must:

  1. Accept the scholarship agreement.
  2. Provide a copy of your upcoming course schedule.

What if my scholarship is for multiple semesters?

If your scholarship is for multiple semesters, at the end of each semester you will need to login to the scholarship portal to provide  your current cumulative GPA and upcoming course schedule before the next scholarship payment can be released.

What happens if I fail to meet the minimum scholarship criteria?

GNWKCF ensures each scholarship fund establishing documents are carefully followed. Students must meet the minimum scholarship criteria at the time of enrollment or the awarded scholarship will be forfeited.

What happens if I fail to complete the follow up steps?

Failure to complete the follow up steps may result in forfeit of your scholarship.
