The Flora Elizabeth Boutz Edwards Endowment Scholarship was first made available to 2018 graduates of Decatur Community Schools in Oberlin. This permanent scholarship will continue to support Decatur Community Schools annually through the generous benefit and forward thinking efforts of Ms. Edwards. This scholarship is paid out over a two-semester payout. Deadline to apply is April 1.

One Reference Evaluation is required for each applicant.  The specified reference may download the form that will be required by clicking HERE. When completing the online application, an email address for this reference is required and he/she will be sent a link to this form. The form will be submitted electronically by the listed reference after receiving the automated email from the scholarship system.

GEOGRAPHIC LIMITATIONS:

Graduating seniors of Decatur Community High School (USD 294). Foreign Exchange Students are not eligible to apply.

AMOUNT:

Amount varies.

CRITERIA:

  • Applicant must not have exceeded 48 days of absence from school within his/her 4 year high school education.
  • A letter of extenuating circumstances from the principal or high school counselor will be considered if the 48 days has been exceeded.
  • This scholarship will be awarded to multiple qualified applicants.
  • Two Reference Evaluation Forms must be provided in the application process.
  • You will need an email address for each reference you provide.
  • Students enrolling part-time or full-time in post-secondary education are eligible to apply.

RENEWALS:

This scholarship is paid to recipients over 1 years (2 semesters), providing a 2.0 cumulative GPA is maintained.

NOTE:

Applications are accepted from until April 1 (end of day) annually.

Can I send a physical application as opposed to an online one?

All applications must be completed online. Paper copies are not accepted.

How will I know if I'm eligable?

Applicants will be required to complete an eligibility quiz at first logon to determine which scholarships they are eligible to apply.

Can I use my high school email address?

Do NOT use your high school email address.  The email address used in the application will be the primary contact method throughout college if you receive a scholarship award.  If needed, create a personal email account in gmail, yahoo, etc. for permanent personal use.

What are the requirements for references?

Verify that your references are willing to provide a POSITIVE reference for you prior to listing them as a reference.  You will need their email address to enter into the application.

How should I approach my answers?

Let your personality shine and be thorough in your answers.  Your responses are key to the award selection process.

What happens if my application is accepted?

Once you are awarded a scholarship, you must login to the scholarship portal to complete the required follow up steps. Before the first scholarship payment can be released, you must:

  1. Accept the scholarship agreement.
  2. Provide a copy of your upcoming course schedule.

What if my scholarship is for multiple semesters?

If your scholarship is for multiple semesters, at the end of each semester you will need to login to the scholarship portal to provide  your current cumulative GPA and upcoming course schedule before the next scholarship payment can be released.

What happens if I fail to meet the minimum scholarship criteria?

GNWKCF ensures each scholarship fund establishing documents are carefully followed. Students must meet the minimum scholarship criteria at the time of enrollment or the awarded scholarship will be forfeited.

What happens if I fail to complete the follow up steps?

Failure to complete the follow up steps may result in forfeit of your scholarship.
