The Della Connell Scholarship Fund was established to assist Norton High School graduating seniors with continuing their higher education. This scholarship is set-up as a two-semester payout with the opportunity to apply for a second year renewal. Senior applicants must possess a minimum of 3.0 GPA entering community college or university, or a 2.0 GPA entering a vocational college. Second year applicants must provide official secondary transcripts with a minimum of 2.0 GPA and will be provided a code to apply for the renewal grant online. (Second year applicants should contact NCCF at 785-874-5106 for access code to apply.) Deadline to apply is April 15.

GEOGRAPHIC LIMITATIONS:

Graduating seniors from USD 211 - Norton County High School or former NCHS graduates.

AMOUNT:

The first year scholarship is typically $1,000 with the ability to apply for a second year of $1,500.

CRITERIA:

Two to three letters of recommendation must be provided in the application process.  You will need an email address for each reference you provide.

Current resume must be included.

High school senior applicants must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 entering a college or university or a 2.0 entering vocational school.

Must be enrolling full-time (min. 12 credit hours) in a post-secondary education program (university, college, vocational / technical school, etc.).

Applicants majoring in agriculture studies or economics will receive consideration above others.

Applicant should be a well-rounded student that is involved in the school and activities.

RENEWAL CRITERIA:

Scholarship is paid in two semesters providing a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 is maintain.

Can I send a physical application as opposed to an online one?

All applications must be completed online. Paper copies are not accepted.

How will I know if I'm eligable?

Applicants will be required to complete an eligibility quiz at first logon to determine which scholarships they are eligible to apply.

Can I use my high school email address?

Do NOT use your high school email address.  The email address used in the application will be the primary contact method throughout college if you receive a scholarship award.  If needed, create a personal email account in gmail, yahoo, etc. for permanent personal use.

What are the requirements for references?

Verify that your references are willing to provide a POSITIVE reference for you prior to listing them as a reference.  You will need their email address to enter into the application.

How should I approach my answers?

Let your personality shine and be thorough in your answers.  Your responses are key to the award selection process.

What happens if my application is accepted?

Once you are awarded a scholarship, you must login to the scholarship portal to complete the required follow up steps. Before the first scholarship payment can be released, you must:

  1. Accept the scholarship agreement.
  2. Provide a copy of your upcoming course schedule.

What if my scholarship is for multiple semesters?

If your scholarship is for multiple semesters, at the end of each semester you will need to login to the scholarship portal to provide  your current cumulative GPA and upcoming course schedule before the next scholarship payment can be released.

What happens if I fail to meet the minimum scholarship criteria?

GNWKCF ensures each scholarship fund establishing documents are carefully followed. Students must meet the minimum scholarship criteria at the time of enrollment or the awarded scholarship will be forfeited.

What happens if I fail to complete the follow up steps?

Failure to complete the follow up steps may result in forfeit of your scholarship.
